The Intersection of Adolescent Medicine and Medical Complexity

Dr.  Alene  Toulany is an Adolescent Medicine Specialist in the Division of Adolescent Medicine and Assistant Professor in the Department of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto. Clinically, she works with adolescents around issues of body image, obesity, eating disorders, and sleep problems. Her academic and research interests include quality of care and health services outcomes for youth with complex chronic medical and mental illness.

Jessica Teicher is a fifth-year subspecialty resident in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at SickKids. Jessica completed medical school and core paediatrics training at the University of Toronto, where she had the privilege to be mentored by Dr. Julia Orkin in Complex Care. Her research to date has focused on examining the impact of parental caregiving for children with medical complexity on social determinants of health. Though her Adolescent Medicine fellowship, Jessica is keen to continue building skills to support youth with chronic illness and developmental disability.
