Child Life Interventions for Procedural Pain
Learning Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the benefits of play for children under stress
- Understand the 3 P Approach to procedural pain from a child life lens
- Create practical tools to support children during procedures in daily practice
- Access additional resources for implementing effective procedural pain management strategies in individual practice
Emily Synnott, CCLS, Trillium Health Partners
Emily holds an undergraduate degree in Child, Youth and Family Studies from the University of Guelph and a post-graduate diploma in Child Life Studies from McMaster University. She is a Certified Child Life Specialist at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, Ontario, providing psychosocial support to the paediatric unit, paediatric clinics, and all other areas of the hospital on a consult basis. Emily has clinical experience supporting children and families in a variety of settings in the areas of general paediatrics, diabetes, oncology, and child abuse.
