Managing Vaccine Pain in Children

  • Identify and explain evidence-based interventions for mitigating stress-related responses

Morgan Livingstone, CCLS at Michael Garron Hospital

Morgan Livingstone is a Certified Child Life Specialist who believes strongly in educating caregivers, administrators, and the public about supporting children coping with illness, surviving trauma and facing stressful life events. With vast experience with resource-limited child life implementation through work with many international charities and NGO’s, Morgan diligently advocates for the provision of child and family friendly healthcare across the globe.

Dr. Anna Taddio, PhD at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)

Dr. Anna Taddio is a Professor in the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto, and Senior Associate Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Her program of research examines: (1) the short-term and long-term effects of pain and pain management in children; (2) the effectiveness and safety of pain management interventions; and (3) evidence-based practice and implementation research. Since 2008, Dr. Taddio founded and leads a national inter-disciplinary team, Help ELiminate Pain in Kids and Adults (HELPinKids&Adults), promoting evidence-based pain management during vaccination. The 2015 HELPinKids&Adults Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) about mitigating pain during vaccination was adopted nationally and internationally, including by the World Health Organization. Dr. Taddio has authored over 200 scientific papers and book chapters and is the recipient of numerous awards recognizing her scholarly and advocacy contributions to pediatric pain.
