Syllabus

  • Recognize the prevalence and impact of mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety, in individuals with epilepsy.
  • Identify key clinical signs and patient-reported concerns that may indicate mood disorders in epilepsy.
  • Review how to incorporate mental health management into overall epilepsy care, including when to refer to specialists.
  • Review the unique presentation of ADHD in children and adults living with epilepsy.
  • Highlight the difference in ADHD symptoms and cognitive effects of epilepsy or its treatments. 
  • Identify evidence-based approaches for managing ADHD in epilepsy patients, including medication considerations and non-pharmacological strategies.
  • Identify common sleep disturbances in individuals with epilepsy and their potential impact on seizure control.
  • Review basic screening tools and features of history to assess for sleep disorders.
  • Discuss approaches to address sleep disturbances, including referrals, behavioural interventions, and pharmacological considerations.
  • Explore the management of migraines among patients living with epilepsy. 
  • Review recommended strategies for acute migraine management.
